Found <a href="https://exercism.io/tracks/go/maintainers" target="_blank">this site</a> and got started right away. </p><p>So far, it has been a great experience, but I will have to be patient as there may be some delays in getting feedback from the mentors.</p><p>This is not really, what I wanted to talk about today. I am shocked at the way adds are rendered in web pages, from `random` sites.</p><p>Can you find a pattern with my recent browsing - I am going to pages that I found in my search result while testing some new APIs in Go.</p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiIV01juYYHu2QhL4TZvM78JJPPg5jCh-HkUeALD3tSL1ByQK8sFLzTzGkNkM2MK4ZXsxIMvXAbOO8dplIbl7GioQS3ORKlnT5avO1eOtztzE2qoPnc_slnSzGyO5vmMWvOcj_2/s2048/random-advertising.png" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1266" data-original-width="2048" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiIV01juYYHu2QhL4TZvM78JJPPg5jCh-HkUeALD3tSL1ByQK8sFLzTzGkNkM2MK4ZXsxIMvXAbOO8dplIbl7GioQS3ORKlnT5avO1eOtztzE2qoPnc_slnSzGyO5vmMWvOcj_2/s640/random-advertising.png" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjH8ZPJmcvp-tD1BKMDfIagYxSsr3MxA6MQ2dwL1uRisgnkW-evWi7DWWNA-cPUs461PvXgk8y-gw0c2eTbn4GelwEesTHvS8xY1yQrMPArAi9_E2oj0xNjL9zdDer5HhIt4hIu/s2048/not-so-random-advertising-v2.png" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1266" data-original-width="2048" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjH8ZPJmcvp-tD1BKMDfIagYxSsr3MxA6MQ2dwL1uRisgnkW-evWi7DWWNA-cPUs461PvXgk8y-gw0c2eTbn4GelwEesTHvS8xY1yQrMPArAi9_E2oj0xNjL9zdDer5HhIt4hIu/s640/not-so-random-advertising-v2.png" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgHZn0N_2hDyp7c6NYWH_ef5zob3LjGmnsnFuJlkPaS9YvUdhn0bzdhhleWzOpQ89cM9A9aEZ9_IqDpsMIP8NEPm2CIiKhIZ8rZYzz7xnmckaSawbESzIT_znzKdcnNeN4RWesA/s2048/not-so-random-advertising-v3.png" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1266" data-original-width="2048" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgHZn0N_2hDyp7c6NYWH_ef5zob3LjGmnsnFuJlkPaS9YvUdhn0bzdhhleWzOpQ89cM9A9aEZ9_IqDpsMIP8NEPm2CIiKhIZ8rZYzz7xnmckaSawbESzIT_znzKdcnNeN4RWesA/s640/not-so-random-advertising-v3.png" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrGr6bPnaLhsux-_iF0ZaJt7P1k1ETdjcqDpIraT_0XnSnDaudm1hKHztvLpU7KnC1td-AsfkFHmrr2nwp4tcCEWkisagt1h1zmqiJwgD9mZ-WN0A9oSOgUazcWPdxqxnSKtR1/s2048/not-so-random-advertising.png" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1266" data-original-width="2048" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrGr6bPnaLhsux-_iF0ZaJt7P1k1ETdjcqDpIraT_0XnSnDaudm1hKHztvLpU7KnC1td-AsfkFHmrr2nwp4tcCEWkisagt1h1zmqiJwgD9mZ-WN0A9oSOgUazcWPdxqxnSKtR1/s640/not-so-random-advertising.png" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div>In the past days, <p></p><p></p><ol style="text-align: left;"><li>I have been considering tacking <a href="https://www.ecornell.com/certificates/technology/machine-learning/" target="_blank">this online course</a> to refresh my ML knowledge</li><li>I have started to use this API - <a href="https://www.producthunt.com/posts/covid-19-news-api">https://www.producthunt.com/posts/covid-19-news-api</a> (hosted on <a href="https://rapidapi.com/">https://rapidapi.com/</a>)<br /></li></ol><div>Where is the value in those adds which are cluttering my browsing experience without much value to me? </div><div><br /></div><div>I am wondering if this training is worth the money now...</div><p></p>Erichttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13944926796673954864noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13394094.post-53230863960703268722015-01-06T20:12:00.001-08:002015-01-06T23:37:34.639-08:00Test locally first, then deploy to the cloud.<div>
As recommended by <a href="https://medium.com/@cchau">Cheuk Chau</a> on Medium, I read '<a href="https://medium.com/@mattangriffel/how-to-develop-a-daily-writing-habit-475732c2b026">How to Develop a Daily Writing Habit</a>’ - I’ll try to put it in practice here with my second advise - should have been my #1 advise:</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b><i>Run a local copy of your application first, before to test it on your cloud instance.</i></b></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
While it’s simple to run directly on the Cloud, and we have a lot of samples available to get started, working local first is the best way to get ready when trouble come your way.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Samples are available from:</div>
<ul>
<li>Your own Cloud instance SDK : https://javatrialxxxx-usoracletrialxxxx.java.us2.oraclecloudapps.com/doc/index.html</li>
<li>another instance of the SDK documentation, hosted for you : <a href="https://javas2-jcscdc.java.us2.oraclecloudapps.com/doc/index.html">https://javas2-jcscdc.java.us2.oraclecloudapps.com/doc/index.html</a></li>
<li>The Cloud documentation books : <a href="https://docs.oracle.com/cloud/latest/javacs_gs/index.html">https://docs.oracle.com/cloud/latest/javacs_gs/index.html</a></li>
<li>OTN samples : <a href="http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/indexes/samplecode/cloud-samples-2203466.html">http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/indexes/samplecode/cloud-samples-2203466.html</a></li>
<li>Same samples, hosted on github : <a href="https://github.com/oracle/Oracle-Cloud">https://github.com/oracle/Oracle-Cloud</a></li>
</ul>
<div>
One challenge you will face : there are many ways to get code deployed - you need to find the best option for you and your organization. Here are a few :</div>
<ol>
<li>JDeveloper workspace, using <a href="http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/jdev/downloads/jdeveloer111171-2183166.html">11.1.1.7.1 build</a>.</li>
<li>ant build.xml (part of the SDK samples)</li>
<li>maven pom.xml (part of the SDK samples)</li>
<li>java cli (part of the SDK samples)</li>
<li>the web console</li>
</ol>
<div>
The other step important is to check the output of the deployment and minimize the number of error and warning you see.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
In one case, I started to look at some error I was seeing first in my Cloud instance, assuming it was a new issue. After a few trials, I finally run another test with my local setup and found that I was getting the same error. I made a mistake while editing some of the source code for my application and did not catch the error with local testing, which would have been cheaper for me.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<br />
<div>
For my next post, my advise is going to be of a different form - what you should not try. The <b><i>do not</i></b> advices are as valuable as the <b><i>do</i></b> advises - In some case. you have to learn from your mistakes, but sometime, it’s cheaper to leverage someone else mistakes.</div>

<br />
While I can find information about almost everything with Google or Stack Overflow, I realized that it's sometime hard to find the one piece of information which is relevant for you, in your current context.<br />
<br />
It usually ends up being a compilation of multiple blog posts or answers; it's the curated content which brings most of the $$$ value.<br />
<br />
As I go through the process to discover how to use the <a href="https://cloud.oracle.com/home" target="_blank">Oracle public cloud</a>, I am going to blog about the learning process, here.<br />
<br />
The first advise I'll share is this one:<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<i><b>For any sample you are using, start with Git</b></i></div>
<br />
Here is why:<br />
<br />
<ol>
<li>Once you have a working version, commit and push to the remote. <br /><br />It give you the following benefits: easy to share with your peers - you have a backup for 'free' - in case the next set of changes break something in a bad way, rolling back is a breeze.</li>
<li>Once you have a broken version, rollback is cheap - see above ;)</li>
<li>Once you are happy with your work, it's ready for other to view and use<br /><br />You have no extra step required, and other may even find it valuable before you consider to be done with it. </li>
</ol>
<div>
Here is my new GitHub account where I will start to follow the same rule in the coming days:</div>
<div>
<a href="https://github.com/erajkovic">https://github.com/erajkovic</a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
The specific blog post I wanted to reference today is this one: <a href="http://markchensblog.blogspot.com/2014/05/develop-and-deploy-jersey-restful.html">http://markchensblog.blogspot.com/2014/05/develop-and-deploy-jersey-restful.html</a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
It's a great post, and I do not need to replicate it's content here. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Only issue I had was that <i>jersey-bundle-1.9.war</i> was not present on the distribution I used to deploy to my cloud instance - I was using JDeveloper 11.1.1.7.1 and I could only find <i>jersey-bundle-1.1.5.1.war</i> on my local <i>wlserver_10.3\common\deployable-libraries</i> folder.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
The fix is also trivial - get a newer version and install it as documented in the blog post referenced above.</div>
<br />
<br />
Today, the sample I'll love to see in a Git repository, so I can Scan the code to learn how it was built before I Commit to it and run the sample on my local instance - it's the Oracle <a href="http://jdevadf.oracle.com/workbetter/faces/index.jsf" target="_blank">Alta demo</a>.<br />
<br />
There is a new code sample available on OTN for Alta skin - source: <a href="http://t.co/kZ0794V4R1">http://t.co/kZ0794V4R1</a> (or <a href="http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/jdev/index-098948.html#alta">http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/jdev/index-098948.html#alta</a>) It would have been nice to get it from <a href="https://github.com/oracle/Oracle-Cloud">https://github.com/oracle/Oracle-Cloud</a> (or some other repo).<br />
<br />
As I am proof reading my billet, I realized that this is the second advise I would have love to get from someone more knowledgeable -my mentor- with the Oracle public cloud development model.<br />
<br />
It's give me an easy follow-up post for next year.Erichttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13944926796673954864noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13394094.post-63770005573884747122014-09-23T19:46:00.001-07:002014-09-23T20:07:17.730-07:00The importance of content for Image and PerceptionAfter Oracle's news about the changes at the helm, I was offered to follow a new user on twitter. which may be relevant for me - <a class="ProfileCard-screennameLink u-linkComplex js-nav" href="https://twitter.com/MarkVHurd" style="background: rgb(255, 255, 255); color: #66757f; font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 1; text-decoration: none !important; vertical-align: text-top;"><span style="color: #66757f; font-family: Helvetica Neue, Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: x-small;"><span style="background: rgb(255, 255, 255); line-height: 1; vertical-align: text-top;">@</span></span><span class="u-linkComplex-target" style="background: rgb(255, 255, 255); color: #66757f; font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 1; text-decoration: none !important; vertical-align: text-top;">MarkVHurd</span></a><br />
<br />
My first click from twitter, on my mobile phone, was to look at is web site : <a class="u-textUserColor" href="http://t.co/uIEUQdPwps" rel="me nofollow" style="background: rgb(245, 248, 250); color: rgb(221, 46, 68) !important; font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 14px; text-decoration: none;" target="_blank" title="http://www.MarkHurd.com">MarkHurd.com</a><br />
<br />
Here is what I saw over 3 days, and 3 visits - the screen are compiled in one animated gif - days 1, 2 and 3 are available <a href="https://plus.google.com/u/0/+EricRajkovic/" target="_blank">as still images</a> on my G+ page too ;)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjzEtM1MVC3hsbRPJPK789v4epCEuPDvQEYIzz_UxrCVNNN61CnFv0tIdOG_5ihDGK80DWQzXL0QcBowsps5miTVHh3RzcsTnmNvJ33RLCIzVAfLnCyIcIFRbpuss0YwTz2-Bdf/s1600/MH_Mobile.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjzEtM1MVC3hsbRPJPK789v4epCEuPDvQEYIzz_UxrCVNNN61CnFv0tIdOG_5ihDGK80DWQzXL0QcBowsps5miTVHh3RzcsTnmNvJ33RLCIzVAfLnCyIcIFRbpuss0YwTz2-Bdf/s1600/MH_Mobile.gif" height="320" width="180" /></a></div>
<br />
The pros: the web master is busy improving the site every day.<br />
The cons: they do not seams to get what mobile friendly really means... here is the same site in desktop view.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgI9JbDf7cZ01p8c4qWkN1RYkE3fILGCif0hCLOTXHjllZ9YmbJzqmwkwJuUXZS-e1562_3lBFDCotzAHDmW5Zs_D_rPgs2-kYA4uW-2weKWYi_CCDmP5MnJ8SUBTGvEzO__Zsa/s1600/MH_HomePage.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgI9JbDf7cZ01p8c4qWkN1RYkE3fILGCif0hCLOTXHjllZ9YmbJzqmwkwJuUXZS-e1562_3lBFDCotzAHDmW5Zs_D_rPgs2-kYA4uW-2weKWYi_CCDmP5MnJ8SUBTGvEzO__Zsa/s1600/MH_HomePage.png" height="204" width="320" /></a></div>
Here again, you can see that the web master was busy - there is a new anchor:<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.oracle.com/us/corporate/press/executives/hurd/index.html" style="-webkit-transition: all 0.2s ease-in-out; background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #006e99; font-family: 'Droid Sans', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 20.7999992370605px; margin: 0px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; text-align: start; text-decoration: none; transition: all 0.2s ease-in-out; vertical-align: baseline;" title="Mark Hurd is Chief Executive Officer of Oracle Corporation">Mark Hurd is Chief Executive Officer of Oracle Corporation</a><span style="background-color: white; color: #444444; font-family: 'Droid Sans', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 20.7999992370605px; text-align: start;"> and a member of the Board of Directors</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="background-color: white; color: #444444; font-family: 'Droid Sans', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 20.7999992370605px; text-align: start;"><br /></span></div>
As a geek, you tale a look at the browser title (or at the source):<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #881280; font-family: monospace; text-align: start; white-space: pre-wrap;"><span class="webkit-html-attribute-name" style="font-family: monospace; text-align: start; white-space: pre-wrap;">property</span><span style="color: #881280; font-family: monospace; text-align: start; white-space: pre-wrap;">="</span><span class="webkit-html-attribute-value" style="font-family: monospace; text-align: start; white-space: pre-wrap;">og:title</span><span style="color: #881280; font-family: monospace; text-align: start; white-space: pre-wrap;">" </span><span class="webkit-html-attribute-name" style="font-family: monospace; text-align: start; white-space: pre-wrap;">content</span><span style="color: #881280; font-family: monospace; text-align: start; white-space: pre-wrap;">="</span><span class="webkit-html-attribute-value" style="font-family: monospace; text-align: start; white-space: pre-wrap;">Mark Hurd | Oracle President and Board of Directors Member</span><span style="color: #881280; font-family: monospace; text-align: start; white-space: pre-wrap;">" /></span></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="background-color: white; color: #444444; font-family: 'Droid Sans', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 20.7999992370605px; text-align: start;"><br /></span></div>
The question I am left with: does the web master get the concepts behind <a href="http://www.bestseoideas.com/best-practices/seo-tips-and-tricks" target="_blank">SEO</a>?<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
My next wonder is about UX, but I'll keep it for another blog post - as a teaser, you can look at my twitter feed : <a href="https://twitter.com/rajkovic">https://twitter.com/rajkovic</a></div>

<br />
Today's example is this article on Forbes; <a href="http://www.forbes.com/sites/oracle/2014/07/28/why-i-left-the-wall-street-journal-to-join-oracle/" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', Times, serif; line-height: 1.1em;">Why I Left The Wall Street Journal To Join Oracle</a><br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
From the article, here are two images :</div>
<div>
<ul>
<li>Siloette - 924x519 used in a region of 170 x 113<br /><a href="http://blogs-images.forbes.com/oracle/files/2014/07/Siloette.jpg">http://blogs-images.forbes.com/oracle/files/2014/07/Siloette.jpg</a></li>
<li>Lighbulb - 1700x1129 in a region of 808 x 454<br /><a href="http://blogs-images.forbes.com/oracle/files/2014/07/Lightbulb.jpg">http://blogs-images.forbes.com/oracle/files/2014/07/Lightbulb.jpg</a></li>
</ul>
<div>
<img alt="" src="http://blogs-images.forbes.com/oracle/files/2014/07/Lightbulb.jpg" height="132" width="200" /></div>
<div>
<img alt="Siloette" class=" size-full wp-image-5898" src="http://blogs-images.forbes.com/oracle/files/2014/07/Siloette.jpg" height="112" width="200" /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Looks like a style of publishing where a subset of a full publication is injected on the left pane of another article to cross reference articles. If you continue reading on the site, then you start to benefit from this as you already have the resource in your local cache.</div>
</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<div>
Is this the new trend or one off?</div>
</div>
<div>
<br /></div>

The other new trend I am seeing is to use flouted images on iOS, as background image in LinkedIn Connect for iOS.</div>

<br /></div>
<div>
As I cannot go on Fesse Book to notify my friends I am no longer there, I have to use alternate routes ;-)</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Most likely, I am going to create a Marketing Account on MailChimp for 'Les Amis d'Eric' so that I can continue to push update about my remodeling project and my new diets.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
This is still work in progress, so stay tuned.</div>

Here is the claim (in french):
<br />
<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="float: left; margin-right: 1em; text-align: left;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjEkrTgYW7MeqD8sW-b1oaSadnMHIfSiddV1Zkq8OxKyy2qufErkq8RSfwcH8cOaKvXIik8zlbwuWmzFA64lyfvMc0poUcXj5UA0OMoORjVLQ1fU6SLntMu9KjC-pv8MpDjVf8c/s1600/AccessWithFaceBook.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjEkrTgYW7MeqD8sW-b1oaSadnMHIfSiddV1Zkq8OxKyy2qufErkq8RSfwcH8cOaKvXIik8zlbwuWmzFA64lyfvMc0poUcXj5UA0OMoORjVLQ1fU6SLntMu9KjC-pv8MpDjVf8c/s1600/AccessWithFaceBook.png" height="227" width="640" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">What is advertised by the site</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
And here is the disclaimer from Face Book:<br />
<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="float: left; margin-right: 1em; text-align: left;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgv3d0lrvG8zIQFDK1Rpo1SemX2w8SPaovEK69ilGyfJrF42O1CNIH-8-fYA91f3mBPbnUa67pJTFs8dT2xODJUBlm8nTkrE8daTMJ0HC9TFL8S7b-hJcXKhCXs_gwujyu8VDFG/s1600/ReallyTransferted.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgv3d0lrvG8zIQFDK1Rpo1SemX2w8SPaovEK69ilGyfJrF42O1CNIH-8-fYA91f3mBPbnUa67pJTFs8dT2xODJUBlm8nTkrE8daTMJ0HC9TFL8S7b-hJcXKhCXs_gwujyu8VDFG/s1600/ReallyTransferted.png" height="360" width="640" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">What Face Book is sharing</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br /><div>
Who should I trust - I do not care about my public profile, all the information I put on face book is public and may not be accurate, so it's OK to have this shared with other for their use.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
My list of friends - no way / I do not want them to get spam. What is of interest to me may not be of interest to them.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
@Facebook, I do not mind sharing my face book email, but that's about it. </div>

You can get your download from <a href="http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/jdev/downloads/index.html">this page</a>.<br />
On Mac OS-X, I have been using the "Generic" option of <b>Studio Edition: 12.1.2.0.0</b>.<br />
On my work desktop, running Windows 7, I did go with the installer - Windows 64-bit Install (Size: 1.8 GB).<br />
As the first install failed with a generic error, I guess it's worth reminding everyone that you have to run the installer as admin.<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi5Xd1B8LB1G2NCBqY7DETczdJIPFx_D3HmU0rfX8dO74GdM1dvALAMcS8qLJ0SPLJXvDv3ZvQo-SEqk9LzPnPGO967yAwfymi4Lo6LGYf40ni_6le9KDFisKbKGPIHw6xDzb17/s1600/RunAsAdmin.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; display: inline !important; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi5Xd1B8LB1G2NCBqY7DETczdJIPFx_D3HmU0rfX8dO74GdM1dvALAMcS8qLJ0SPLJXvDv3ZvQo-SEqk9LzPnPGO967yAwfymi4Lo6LGYf40ni_6le9KDFisKbKGPIHw6xDzb17/s1600/RunAsAdmin.png" /></a><br />
<br />
The message: <b>"ERROR: Launch: No such file or directory"</b>.<br />
If you go with the generic installer, you will get the root cause for this error:<br />

<div style="margin: 0px;">
<i>Unable to access or modify the system registry. Select Run as Administrator when opening the Command Prompt and try again. The Oracle Universal Installer failed. Exiting.</i></div>

First time, it will take a few minutes to setup the environment, and you will see a new pop-up before to get started:<br />

Here are a few that catch my attention in the past weeks:<br />
<ol>
<li>OASIS Cloud Application Management for Platforms (<a href="https://www.oasis-open.org/apps/org/workgroup/camp/">CAMP</a>). </li>
<li>OASIS Cloud Authorization (<a href="https://lists.oasis-open.org/archives/oasis-charter-discuss/201210/msg00003.html">CloudAuthZ</a>).</li>
<li>The AWS <a href="http://aws.amazon.com/govcloud-us/">GovCloud</a> (US) Region</li>
</ol>
<div>
Camp remind me of <a href="http://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp/">BootCamp</a> or <a href="http://www.lebootcamp.com/">LeBootCamp</a> :)</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Is CloudAuthZ the next OAuth?</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<div>
With all the buzz around cloud, I am curious to see where we are going. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
</div>
<div>
How are all these new initiatives going to impact us on the Web, while using DropBox, EverNote, or Google+, LinkedIn, Apple and the like? </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<div>
Where is the trust going to be on the WEB?</div>
</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I'll like to keep the center-stage in this role game and own my identity, keep my tokens secured in my wallet like I do today. I am not sure I want to trust comercial entities to do this for me, free of charges.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Can players like Adobe, Microsoft, Oracle, RedHat and the telcos get into this game and provide the unified platform for everyone to standardize on?</div>

<div class="p1">
It has been a long time since I last used soapUI - see my <a href="http://ws-rx.blogspot.com/2007/03/soap-ui-or-dream-come-true.html">2007 post</a> - when I was using version 2.1.x. Today, I got 4.5.1, from the same location: <a href="http://www.soapui.org/"><span class="s1">http://www.soapui.org/</span></a></div>
<div class="p2">
<br /></div>
<div class="p1">
I wanted to test a simple WS using WS-Security username token and ran into an interesting issue; the invocations were failing with an HTTP error : <b>401 Unauthorized</b>. </div>
<div class="p2">
<br /></div>
<div class="p1">
The solution was simple - switch the HTTP authentication to use preemptive mode (see <a href="http://www.soapui.org/Working-with-soapUI/preferences.html#HTTP Settings Tab" target="_blank">documentation</a>).</div>
<div class="p1">
<br /></div>

The key here is ns0 - the GenericFault is related to policy enforcement. This is the only hint you will get from the server. <br />
I am currently running the Studio Edition Version 11.1.2.1.0<br />
<br />
Google gave me a good first place to start : <a href="http://chadthompson.me/2012/07/26/a-mountain-lion-ate-my-jdeveloper/?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter">A Mountain Lion Ate My JDeveloper</a>. While this sounds like the right solution, I am going with a simple hack for now; it is to use JDK 1.7 and ignore the warning seen at startup.<br />
<br />
Edit ~/Oracle11121/Middleware/jdeveloper/jdev/bin/jdev.conf<br />
<br />
replace<br />
<br />
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
SetJavaHome /System/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/1.6.0.jdk/Contents/Home</blockquote>
<br />
with<br />
<br />
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
SetJavaHome /Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/1.7.0.jdk/Contents/Home</blockquote>
So far, so good and I am able to see my current projects and compile my code.<br />
<br />
You mileage may varies.<br />

<br />
But first thing first, I have to refresh my IDE install on my MacBook Air - This is an easy 2 steps process:<br />
<br />
<ol>
<li><a href="http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/jdev/downloads/index.html">Download</a> the latest version from OTN - Version 11.1.2.1.0 is the latest (Build 6081).</li>
<li>Follow the steps from <a href="https://blogs.oracle.com/shay/entry/installing_jdeveloper_on_mac_os">Shay's blog</a>.</li>
</ol>
<div>
The 1.7 GB file is not really lightweight on the WIFI network - it's better to have something else to do while waiting for the file to be ready, like learning about Oracle Enterprise Repository:</div>
<div>
<ul>
<li>Start with the overview, <a href="http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/repository/overview/index.html">here</a>.</li>
<li>Next is the <a href="http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/repository/documentation/index.html">Java API References</a>, a.k.a. the JavaDoc and the <a href="http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/registry/osr111productdocumentation-159992.pdf">OSR online documentation</a>.</li>
</ul>
<div>
There is a lot of reading material, so you should be good for some time. You can also browse the Sample Code collections on OTN - My next stop is the <a href="http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/indexes/samplecode/crmod-sample-522104.html">Oracle CRM On Demand Sample Code</a>.</div>
</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Here are 3 screen shoots that are important:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_Gi7a-Kf6Ne441D1NBZMxZowoR8gVxQ6PqmOHbwqvWl66O9bQ11MoOlbif-e_V_BMF58IYf6fLXHNXAiLHsKuvZpmF1sjBqYTAPdjT1wc7aeYAMVsE7upiSs2Glbr6b2C1f15/s1600/InstallerStartup.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="173" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_Gi7a-Kf6Ne441D1NBZMxZowoR8gVxQ6PqmOHbwqvWl66O9bQ11MoOlbif-e_V_BMF58IYf6fLXHNXAiLHsKuvZpmF1sjBqYTAPdjT1wc7aeYAMVsE7upiSs2Glbr6b2C1f15/s320/InstallerStartup.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Pop-up screen you will get once the installer download is completed.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Remember to follow the steps described in Shay's blog before to start. You need to get the Apple JVM detected as in the screen shoot below.</div>

Apple JVM detected</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Once you are here, it simple - just follow the remaining steps of the installer. </div>

I have been trying to setup a new account with Amazon to get into the french version of the associate program, and got an email with potential french readers. It all started well, with a nice intro:</div>
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
<i><span class="Apple-style-span" style="background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0.917969); color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px;">Cher Partenaire,</span><br style="background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0.917969); color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px;" /><span class="Apple-style-span" style="background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0.917969); color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px;">Merci d'avoir pris contact avec le Programme Partenaires d'Amazon.fr.</span></i></blockquote>
Then, there was a link:<br />
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
<i><span class="Apple-style-span" style="background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0.917969); color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px;">Ai-je résolu votre problème?</span> </i> </blockquote>
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
<i><span class="Apple-style-span" style="background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0.917969); color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px;">Si non, cliquez ici s'il vous plaît :</span> +a short link</i></blockquote>
After I answered a few questions, I got a nice 'Call Me' offer, except they are close right now.<br />
<img border="0" height="192" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhsRFSMjezclQO5rcMNPdDnwoGkOiozMTpdRUE7EeejczKwedCcQag9gEgFoPi8lSfWG8dTeZVo5LEPP5TRceERuA0YWTdQmwZUOQPmkMPsxGoFac_-2HMAtrD0zKoXt5WHSC6T/s400/CallMe.png" style="text-align: left;" width="400" /><br />
Why are we not able to get a better user experience and see the open hours upfront?<br />
<br />
It would be nice to have an asynchronous way to keep in touch on my current issue or ticket. CRM has still a long way to go, especially for free services. Or am I asking too much here?Erichttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13944926796673954864noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13394094.post-42377864617918735542011-06-30T05:50:00.000-07:002011-06-30T05:54:06.063-07:00Amazon search box is goneUntil I can find a way to setup my french account on Amazon Associates, the link to search is gone from by blog as it's now a dead account.<br />

Most of the free time was spent on the new media, trying to figure out why Facebook and Twitter were so useful to communicate with the world.<br />
<br />
As I am wrapping up the year, I have two new books on my night stand:<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.amazon.com/Processing-XML-documents-Oracle-JDeveloper/dp/1847196667?ie=UTF8&tag=webser082-20&link_code=btl&camp=213689&creative=392969" target="_blank">Processing XML documents with Oracle JDeveloper 11g</a><br />

<br />
<a href="http://www.amazon.com/Web-2-0-Solutions-Oracle-WebCenter/dp/1847195806?ie=UTF8&tag=webser082-20&link_code=btl&camp=213689&creative=392969" target="_blank">Web 2.0 Solutions with Oracle WebCenter 11g</a><img alt="" border="0" height="1" src="http://www.assoc-amazon.com/e/ir?t=webser082-20&l=btl&camp=213689&creative=392969&o=1&a=1847195806" style="border: none !important; margin: 0px !important; padding: 0px !important;" width="1" /><a href="http://www.amazon.com/Web-2-0-Solutions-Oracle-WebCenter/dp/1847195806?ie=UTF8&tag=webser082-20&link_code=bil&camp=213689&creative=392969" imageanchor="1" target="_blank"><img alt="Web 2.0 Solutions with Oracle WebCenter 11g" src="http://ws.amazon.com/widgets/q?MarketPlace=US&ServiceVersion=20070822&ID=AsinImage&WS=1&Format=_SL160_&ASIN=1847195806&tag=webser082-20" /></a><img alt="" border="0" height="1" src="http://www.assoc-amazon.com/e/ir?t=webser082-20&l=bil&camp=213689&creative=392969&o=1&a=1847195806" style="border: none !important; margin: 0px !important; padding: 0px !important;" width="1" /><br />
<br />
With this on my to-read list, I should be able to convert my experimentations into something useful. I need to find a better way to:<br />
<ul><li>keep track of my comic books and follow the new releases dates<br />
<li>build a collection of my preferred recipes, from the family and friends, together with the pictures I shoot and store in my Smug-mug account. <br />
</ul><br />
Let see how I can make it happend in 2011 ;-)Erichttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13944926796673954864noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13394094.post-76529212517806489432010-10-18T09:43:00.000-07:002010-10-18T09:43:50.976-07:00Mon humeur du jour.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Suicide pill in full motion :<img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi8qGtTUkcl1AeX12STa1WQvcMsxkVWkSzE4xp5RJfBT66GTK4DMWe5fAB3xWQLUESkJjxWviKFOFUycabrSlEzbdo8BEbMV1ujHew7VP_jAy2Ltjhv-qeWiexkBmMXPG7r0cys/s1600/ss.gif" /></div><iframe align="left" frameborder="0" marginheight="0" marginwidth="0" scrolling="no" src="http://rcm.amazon.com/e/cm?t=webser082-20&o=1&p=8&l=bpl&asins=B0021L8V1Q&fc1=000000&IS2=1&lt1=_blank&m=amazon&lc1=0000FF&bc1=000000&bg1=FFFFFF&f=ifr" style="height: 245px; padding-right: 10px; padding-top: 5px; width: 131px;"></iframe>Erichttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13944926796673954864noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13394094.post-15624259853221673592010-04-28T23:05:00.000-07:002010-04-28T23:07:34.426-07:00Java DecompilerI have a new tools to share with you : JD GUI<br />

It's one of the must-have if you need to figure out why things are not working the way you expect them to work...<br />

After two days searching for a NPE, which was not reported, I wished I would not have wait that long before to get down to the rubber.<br />

Here are some fun facts and though about Web square (a.k.a 2.0):<br /><ul><li>Thanks to a spammer, I came across an <a href="http://ws-rx.blogspot.com/2007/05/latest-oc4j-released.html">old post</a> of mine where I was happy to see my ranking in the oc4j WS forum so high. Since, I have been moving to other area of development, and only reply to forum post using feedly reader, when I kind of see obvious error I can help with. I used to have a gold medal - now I am a newbie again. Did I lost my mojo? </li><li>My new center of interest goes around ADF nowadays, and there is a new blog to add to your list - <a href="http://adfgarage.blogspot.com/">ADF Garage</a>.</li></ul>On the fun part, I am wondering if it would make sense to put multiple mobile version of web sites, side by side in a single page, instead of using the full blown version, even when you are on a wide-screen computer, attached to a fast network.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjiKtnhDVqTK2RYbMyARJJ-l6C2BpnRHvGQch2-6hyphenhyphenmu0nmwWIxU6TJwTQajRXZX781BH-cxzlR2lxy6IY05ZhacmqIK781IZRBaaHfvCiRcG45HA0JcuhCk-ZxepmbMRv8bGGV/s1600-h/feedly-karma-stat.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer; width: 291px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjiKtnhDVqTK2RYbMyARJJ-l6C2BpnRHvGQch2-6hyphenhyphenmu0nmwWIxU6TJwTQajRXZX781BH-cxzlR2lxy6IY05ZhacmqIK781IZRBaaHfvCiRcG45HA0JcuhCk-ZxepmbMRv8bGGV/s400/feedly-karma-stat.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5398517673328448754" border="0" /></a><br /><ul><li>Try <a href="http://m.facebook.com/home.php">facebook</a> and <a href="http://m.twitter.com/edwk">twitter</a> mobile editions, side by side as google gadgets or with the eXo portal - Tug, are you reading this?</li><li>I love the karma feature in <a href="http://feedly.com/">feedly</a> - it give you some interesting inside on what others do with your tweets. I need to figure out a way to get google reader setup for source inside the firewall...<br /></li><li>Typo are very easy with mobile device, and the use of # with the wrong keyword make it all goes to the drain - search #oow2009 vs. #oow09 :-) / We need auto correct on the fly to supplement our slow brains or chubby fingers...<br /></li></ul>And my next fun project is to write a tool to cleanup some large XML files; a small jazn-data.xml file, with about ~13k lines. I need a nice UI to search for grants for given resource path or by role. For the job, I'll pick JDeveloper 11g and his companion book : <a href="http://www.packtpub.com/processing-xml-documents-with-oracle-jdeveloper-11g/book"><span style="font-style: italic; font-weight: bold;">Processing XML documents with Oracle JDeveloper 11g</span></a>. I'll report back once I have it all figured out, in a couple of nights ;-)<br /><br />Until then, Happy Halloween everyone.Erichttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13944926796673954864noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13394094.post-77738834717910601042009-04-02T16:02:00.000-07:002009-04-02T16:13:43.775-07:00Should I write code before I can test it?Maybe this would be better as a question on twitter, as I may not get to many comment here on my web 1.5 journal.<br /><br />Is it OK to write code I cannot test and assumes that by the time I am done writing the features I have in mind, the environment to test it would be available, or should I start setting up the environment first, and get the hello world application up and running with the monitoring and clean log files, so that I can then go ahead with small incremental cycles which are all providing features I can test as I go?<br /><br />On another topic, when can you consider that a forum or forum category is to be considered dead?<br />a) 0 post in a day<br />b) 0 post in a week ?<br />c) 0 post in a month?Erichttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13944926796673954864noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13394094.post-41851726500258082702009-04-01T13:05:00.000-07:002009-04-01T13:07:46.625-07:00iFool<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhqNKc2SA3KlR5WRx_OWkDakRtg5s4S13z8lDXsSJzLw3v7Fa7MBh5x_EdQH8Fsz5c8B3DjgQSuiM3HNn_DCpS6cNgEpydM3pBWZcbn4z1Y7HvXSS3UNIxSNwbWuT-9LtcHvphf/s1600-h/HappyBirthDay.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 280px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhqNKc2SA3KlR5WRx_OWkDakRtg5s4S13z8lDXsSJzLw3v7Fa7MBh5x_EdQH8Fsz5c8B3DjgQSuiM3HNn_DCpS6cNgEpydM3pBWZcbn4z1Y7HvXSS3UNIxSNwbWuT-9LtcHvphf/s400/HappyBirthDay.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5319816834861948994" border="0" /></a><br />No comment, I have been looking forward to my new toys for days now, and the news is out on April first ...Erichttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13944926796673954864noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13394094.post-43826046871487143802008-12-07T18:40:00.000-08:002008-12-07T18:41:58.822-08:00Thinking to light the fireplace tonight ?Check this first:<br /><br /><script src="http://nmp.newsgator.com/ngbuzz/buzz.ashx?buzzId=146282&apiToken=C8A8F8F5025D418F8AACB0A7FB2A799A&trkP=ba78aee8-4101-436a-b8f7-838f3a285f06&trkM=EB1924BA-1697-5269-1B6F-1472D5A28FA8&trkC=B2CC6E18-C6C2-C5BD-25AC-1472D5A2AD59" type="text/javascript"></script><img style="visibility:hidden;width:0px;height:0px;" border="0" width="0" height="0" src="http://counters.gigya.com/wildfire/IMP/CXNID=2000002.0NXC/bT*xJmx*PTEyMjg3MDM3MTcxNTkmcHQ9MTIyODcwMzczNDQ5MiZwPTI2NTAzMSZkPTE*NjI4MiZnPTImdD*mbz1kOGUwOWI2YThjYzI*Y2JiOWE*NTA*ZTZkNGY3Mjk1Yw==.gif" />Erichttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13944926796673954864noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13394094.post-23937477695421260792008-11-04T13:32:00.000-08:002008-11-04T13:45:26.250-08:00JDeveloper 11g on Mac OS-XToday, I have been stuck at home, and it was a good opportunity for me to upgrade my current 10g release of JDeveloper to the latest and greatest, on my iMac.<br />So far so good, but remember the basics: read the releases notes, and Google for someone else, with past experience on your issue at hand.<br />1) setup JDK 1.6 / for me it was already part of the 'OS', just needed to change the default JDK - Applications > Utils > Java > Admin Java, DRAG the 1.6 Version at the top in the list<br />2) tweak JDK so that the JDev installer does find home as a valid one - It's <a href="http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/jdev/htdocs/11/knownissues.html#install4">all documented in the readme</a> (watch for the missing /).<br />3) Next, you can <a href="http://forums.oracle.com/forums/thread.jspa?messageID=2803036">setup your own .app file</a> to have a nice icon to start from (there is more than just an icon if you are really looking into it).<br /><br />Now, that I have my first "Hello Eric" service up on WLS, I can start to look at the next steps: setup SVN and get going with the new discovery process.<br /><br />By the time I am done here, America will have a new president. Let's hope they get the upgrade too.Erichttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13944926796673954864noreply@blogger.com0
